    <Abstract>
Hypertension represents one of the most prevalent cardiovascular disorders and remains a leading global cause of morbidity and mortality, affecting an estimated one billion individuals worldwide. Although advances in screening and diagnosis have expanded, effective blood pressure control continues to be suboptimal, particularly in countries such as India, where recent evidence underscores a steadily increasing prevalence among adults. This review traces the evolution of antihypertensive therapeutics, with specific attention to the limitations of conventional Renin&#x2013;angiotensin&#x2013;aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors and the emerging potential of novel pharmacological strategies. Agents targeting the ACE2/Ang (1&#x2013;7)/Mas receptor axis and neprilysin inhibitors are highlighted as promising candidates for optimizing blood pressure regulation and improving cardiovascular outcomes. The discussion integrates a historical perspective on hypertension research, legislative and policy initiatives, and insights from contemporary clinical trials, while critically examining the challenges that remain. Furthermore, the review emphasizes the role of advancing technologies and innovative therapeutic approaches, acknowledging the prospect of transformative interventions that may redefine hypertension management in the near future.
